All university students should be required to take history courses no matter what their field of study is.
When I was a little boy,I used to keep my grandpa company, who liked to tell stories which happened about 40 years ago.Sitting besides him,I often fell into imagination,ending up with great shocks.This wonderful experience makes me realize that history education serve an important role in individuals development.So, it absolutely reasonable for universities to attach great importance to making history courses compulsory.
Having a deep insight into the history helps us broaden our horizons,which decides whether we can realize our responsibilities and duties ,as citizens,to reward our countries. For example,the older generation took part in World War Two.They showed great courage in adversity,which absolutely deserves our respect. Also,without their sacrifices,it is impossible for us to have a bright future.Bearing this in mind,we ordinary people will cherish peace and make efforts to forward the development of human society.In conclusion,history courses which is completely different from some test-oriented courses should be attached great importance in educational systems.
Also,even for those who major in completely different fields such as Engineering or Maths,benefits are still profound because they will have a better comprehensive understanding of their own subject and learn a great deal from historic scientists.As we all know,rote learning has been adopted in many educational institutions as the main teaching approach.As a result,due to the lack of learning how to learn,their creativity will be distinguished and their enthusiasm will be dampened.In contrast,history courses will make they understand how previous generation explore the world and give them inspirations.So,history courses play an important role in every aspect of your academic studies.
Despite these benefits,some people may still think that learning history is so complicate that these courses will add extra burden to their academic study.Actually,according to the research conducted by CASS(Chinese Academy of Social Sciences),most people have a large number of sources of historical materials,so in other words,they have lay a solid foundation for history study.Although most people are doing what they have to do,those who put personal happiness before everything else will face dire consequences.In a word,while universally acknowledged is that academic study is highly important,we should also make efforts to be generalists.
According to what I have said above,we,students,are exactly beneficiaries of this new policy which is essential for us to cultivate pragmatic skills.
